As an award-winning writer, Patricia’s work has appeared in dozens of newspapers, magazines and journals including, Southern Writers, The Oak Ridger, The Oak Ridge Observer, the Knoxville News-Sentinel, The Writer, Blue Ridge Country, Mature Living, The Notebook, and various anthologies. She has won awards for her poetry, fiction, and non-fiction writing, including first place in the novel category from the Knoxville Writers Guild in 2014 for her contemporary romance. Other writing/editing accolades include:

 

  • Won first place in the Tennessee Magazine poetry contest. May 2016.

  • Three articles and an essay published in Southern Writers Magazine. (2015)

  • Recipient of Oak Ridge Arts Council Award in 2013 for her contribution to the literary arts as one of the founders of the Tennessee Mountain Writers.

  • One of 20 writers included in the book Tennessee Women of Vision and Courage, published in 2012, for her entry about nuclear scientist Elizabeth Rona.

  • Past Chairman of Tennessee Writers Alliance (TWA) (1996)

  • Editor of the first TWA anthology (1996)

  • Founder and Executive Director of Tennessee Mountain Writers, a non-profit writing organization (1989-2002)

  • Past President of East TN Chapter of Society of Professional Journalists (1992)

  • American Cancer Society’s statewide Best Media Coverage Award (1991)

  • Roane County Chamber of Commerce’s Athena Award for “Outstanding Business Woman of the Year.” (1990)

  • Winner of a Tennessee Press Association Award (1988)

  • Tennessee Outdoor Writers Association’s Writer of the Year (1987-88)

  • Former Creative Writing Teacher for Roane State Community College

  • Former Board Member of the Dixie Council of Authors & Journalists

  • Contributor to Children’s Museum (Oak Ridge, TN) publications, including An Appalachian Studies Teacher’s Manual and An Encyclopedia of East Tennessee.

  • Author of four books: a travel guide to East Tennessee (Joy in the Mountains [1982]); a guide to writing for small-town newspapers (Writing for your Home-Town Newspaper [1994]); a contemporary romance (A Place for Lovers [2015]); and a novel (Lonely Way Back Home 2017).
